The College Republicans at Roger Williams University (http://www.rwucr.com) have begun satirical fight against race based scholarships. They are offering a $250 scholarship to whites only. This has come as a surprise to many people since scholarships based on race are almost never exclusively available to whites, since they are deemed to be in a better financial position than most minorities anyways.Many minorities and other P.C. folks are having a field day with the announcement of this scholarship. They are claiming that minorities have a much harder time getting into college than whites do, so this scholarship shouldn’t be exclusively available to whites. But why not? There are plenty of scholarships out there for Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and any other minority you can think of, but no one is questioning these scholarships are they? Affirmative Action was supposed to eliminate any need for racial distinctions, and it obviously hasn’t.
What the College Republicans at RWU are doing is showing the P.C. minority community how much of an insult the double standard is that they place on whites. There are scholarships based not only on race, but also on fields of study. So if you’re a white law student or even if you’re a black undergraduate student, you’re already exempt from the Black Law Student Scholarship. Why? Because in a capitalistic society, people should be able to say where their money goes based on whatever criteria they want. If I want to give a scholarship to a Malaysian dwarf with no index fingers, I can. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it’s my money so back off! (How do you like that for satire?) On the other hand, if I want to give a scholarship to a white undergraduate student I can do that as well. The point is, if the College Republicans want their money going to a white student, regardless of the fact that there may be minorities who need the money as much if not more than the white person, they should be able to.
If the P.C. community has their way with this, the notion of a “whites only” scholarship will be a thing of the past. This won’t make the formerly “whites only” money become instantly available to minorities, rather the funds for these scholarships just won’t be made available to anyone anymore. The people who created the whites only scholarship obviously did so because they want their money going to whites only. If all of a sudden they are forced to make the money available to everyone, then they would simply eliminate the scholarship, and as a result would cause poorer white students to seek funding elsewhere in an already reduced pool of scholarships. With that said, who is the racist here?
